Fineness or thickness of the fiber: this term refers to the diameter of the fiber measured in microns. A common method to measure fiber fineness is by weighing a given length of yarn. The resulting measurement is called the “count,” which is the ratio of yarn length to weight. The higher the count, the finer the yarn (for example, a yarn with a count of 2/56 is thinner than a 2/28 yarn).
Fiber length is measured in millimeters, and generally, a fiber must be at least 5mm long to be spun. Silk is the only fiber characterized by a continuous filament. Wool fibers are relatively long, while shorter fibers include linen and hemp.
Pilling is a completely natural phenomenon that occurs on wool and cashmere garments, resulting in the appearance of small pills on the fabric due to the rubbing of surface fibers that protrude from the yarn. It is not an indicator of low yarn quality, as is often mistakenly believed.
The tendency to form pills is natural but is accentuated the softer and lighter the garment is. Proper use of the garment can minimize this phenomenon.
The colors presented in our range have a standard fastness equal to or greater than 3. However, there is an exception for fluorescent colors, as these cannot guarantee good fastness on natural fibers for technical reasons.
For cleaning cashmere, it is recommended to gently hand wash it in cold water with neutral soap, avoiding heat sources, and laying it flat to dry. It is normal for cashmere to experience “pilling,” but it can be removed with a lint shaver before washing. Dry cleaning is also a valid option, but be cautious about the products used.
Carded yarn is soft, fluffy, with mostly disheveled fibers, creating numerous air pockets within its structure, giving the yarn remarkable volume, insulating value, resilience, and consequently, a very soft hand feel. Combed yarns have a smooth, uniform appearance.
The fibers are parallelized during processing, and the yarn is certainly more suitable for elegant and formal wear. This makes the yarn more resistant to wear and fraying, ensuring a longer lifespan for the garment.
The choice between combed and carded yarns depends on the type of garment and the desired style, regardless of the characteristics of each.
Minimum order quantities vary from item to item and are always specified on the technical sheet inside the color chart. They can be requested from our commercial BACK OFFICE service.
Minimums are the smallest reproducible quantities per item on an industrial scale that strictly maintain Biagioli’s quality standard. They vary from item to item based on composition and are always specified in the color charts.
All the colors of our items comply with China GB18401 standards.
The conditioning of textile materials arises from the technical, industrial, and commercial need to determine the so-called merchant weight of textile products, calculated net of the moisture content that each fiber naturally absorbs from the atmosphere.
The formula used is: weight of dry goods + regain rate * regain rate see table
All technical sheets are available online on our website in the collections section and inside the color charts.
Our yarns are certified: RWS WOOL, SFA CASHMERE, GOTS, GCS, GRS. Always consult with our commercial BACK OFFICE service for precise indications regarding each item.
